Alberta Electronics Recycling Program
In October 2004, Alberta
launched Phase I of its new electronics recycling program, the first of its kind in Canada. Get the

Phase II of the program implementation includes the introduction of an environmental fee that retailers will charge on the purchase of new desktop computers (and related equipment) and televisions starting February 1, 2005.
The fees are as follows:
Televisions
• $15 per 18" screen and smaller
• $25 per 19" to 29" screen
• $30 per 30" to 45" screen
• $45 per 46" screen and larger
Computers and related equipment
• $5 per laptop/electronic notebook
• $8 per desktop printers/printer combinations
• $10 per CPUs (including keyboard, mouse, cables, speakers)
• $12 per computer monitors (LCD and CRT)
What will the environment fee be used for?
The fee will cover the cost of collection, transportation and recycling of electronic materials, public information & awareness programs, and electronics-related research.
